Electrical Engineer

I grew up just outside of Prague, Czechoslovakia and always wanted to be a chemist, a truck driver, or a cook. Attending Technical High School with a focus on electrical generation and power distribution steered my future studies to more technical fields. In 1996 I graduated from Czech Technical University in Prague with a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and moved to the US with my wife shortly thereafter.

In my first jobs in Nashville I worked as a residential and commercial electrician, which gave me my first experience with different electrical installation techniques than I had seen in Europe. I also got to see firsthand the site coordination between other trades. In 1998 I joined the Kurzynske & Associates team and entered the design side of electrical work and never looked back. But that prior experience in the trenches gave me a ground-level understanding of how everything on a project fits together and how changes in one area affect those in others.

My work as a consulting electrical engineer focuses on electrical design, electrical specifications, review of submittal, and follow up during construction. I especially enjoy the initial set up process, because I know that if a project is set up right from the beginning, everything will go more smoothly and come together better in the end. In my nearly twenty years at Kurzynske & Associates, I've been fortunate to work with some great architects in town on many interesting and challenging projects —from small tenant build-outs to multi-story high rise office buildings, and new restaurant construction to the remodel of a historic high school. Not a day goes by that I don't learn something new.

My hobbies include cooking, baking bread, walking my dog, running, hiking, backpacking, cycling, and canoeing. I go camping nearly every month. I was lucky to serve for six years as the Scoutmaster of Troop 3 in East Nashville and am proud to be the father of two Eagle Scouts.
